Voice Over Internet Protocol (or VOIP) is the new buzzword in communication technologies.  With telephone systems now costing a fraction of previous analogue systems, and advanced functionality, there is no better time to consider upgrading your phone system.

VOIP enables calls to run over standard network cable, with the telephone managing its caller extension identity rather than the hard wiring to the telephone socket.  This means once your extensions are configured, they can be moved to new locations in your office, without expensive relocation of fixed telephone cabling.  Wherever there is a CAT5 or CAT6 socket, you can plug your phone in and retain your extension number and voicemail.

Because VOIP uses the same communication methods as the internet, you can even take your office phone home with you, plug it into any broadband connection and it will log on to your office PABX system, enabling you to make and receive calls through your office network as if you were sat at your office desk, with the added benefit of calls to and from your office colleagues being free of charge, as the call is taking place over the internet rather than via the standard BT call network.

Calls received to your extension at home do not incur a forwarding charge from your office, and calls made on your VOIP handset at home will be charged to your office PABX lines, not your home lines.

VOIP enhances the working from home experience, and can be combined with VPN technologies to enable you to work as effectively whilst away from the office as if you were there.

What’s more, if you have small satellite offices, you can link them to a central PABX, providing your customers with a single telephone number regardless of which office they need to reach.  Calls between remote sites are also free.

Thalamus are able to supply, install and maintain VOIP systems from Mitel and Avaya.  Call us to discuss your requirements.
